In Washington D.C. today, a culture of invincibility has grown among members of Congress. These career politicians toughest challenge was winning their first election, and the rest is just easy sailing from there as long as you kept close to lobbyist kickbacks. Well on January 2nd, that culture faced its first step towards collapse.
Republican Senators Ted Cruz of Texas and Ron DeSantis of Florida proposed a Constitutional Amendment to impose term limits on members of Congress. The amendment would ensure that House members would be limited to three terms over six years and Senators two limits over twelve years.
In a statement from his Senatorial office, Cruz declared that “D.C. is broken” and continued further by stating that “The American people resoundingly agreed on Election Day, and President-elect Donald Trump has committed to putting government back to work for the American people. It is well past time to put an end to the cronyism and deceit that has transformed Washington into a graveyard of good intentions.”
It is evident that Ted Cruz has discovered the pulse of America, he must have found it when he endorsed Trump. Americans that have been struggling to find valuable work shake their heads when they see D.C. politicians comfortably keep their jobs while not delivering the results. The Amendment proposed by Senators Cruz and DeSantis will ensure that they intentions of the American people will come to fruition; a term limited Congress that will ensure that the Swamp will be drained for good.
