Donald Trump and his administration have told the USA justice department that they would like to open investigations to help remove anti-Semitic elements inside American universities.
Movement to Improve Relations
“Colleges are generally being far too lenient in allowing the pro-Palestinian community to deprive those in the pro-Israel camp of their First Amendment right to free speech,” said attorney David Friedman “This is a serious constitutional deprivation, so it is something that must be looked at.”
Friedman, a lawyer for the Trump transition team has said that it is America’s duty to make sure neither side, Jewish nor Palestinian is deprived of their First Amendment rights.
“It is inconceivable there could be a mass evacuation on that magnitude, in the unlikely event that there was an otherwise comprehensive peace agreement,” Friedman said. “It makes no sense for Judea and Samaria to be ‘Judenrein [void of Jews],’ any more than it makes sense for Israel to be ‘Arabrein [void of Arabs].’ It’s not fair.”
Trump admin officials clearly said this is a departure from Obama administration rules because they have taken a laxer rule on what they term “oppressed” minorities, particularly referring to the Palestinian cause.
Trump also went farther and criticized the Obama administration rebukes of Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu.
Friedman also said: “The critical thing is to recognize that there is not going to be any progress on a Palestinian state until the Palestinians renounce violence and accept Israel as a Jewish state. Until that happens, there is really nothing to talk about in terms of a political process.”
Trump administration officials reiterated that this is not an attempt at taking sides but simply correcting the balance of freedoms that was not respected by the previous administration.
According to people familiar with the matter, Steve Bannon, Trump’s chief strategist also advised Trump to take this matter seriously to show leftist American Jews (who did not like Trump) that the GOP administration in Washington is their ally.
